Jim Compton’s blog on things language, technology, business and culture.

Howdy!

Outdoor "headshot" of blog author Jim Compton, wearing a grey suitcoat and black button-up shirt posed in front of foliage.

I’m so excited to have you here at the Compton Scatter!

I’m Jim, a journalist by training (and by passion). I fell into the Localization Industry as a “localization engineer” right after college in the early 1990s. Here I became involved in the application of technology in service to language barrier challenges.

The world has changed so much since then, but I assert that the intersection of technology, language, content, and global business is as interesting and relevant a space as ever.

Over my career I’ve had the privilege to meaningfully engage with interested folks on such topics through blogs, podcasts, webinars, and the like.

This is what I endeavor to continue to do here.

I’ll be collating and releasing historical materials here (branded as “Compton Classics”) when I find them still relevant, and will be authoring new material in order to accomplish two things:

  1. Provide insights and analyses that are materially helpful to everyone who might benefit.
  2. Engage with folks who are also interested in these topics in service to elevating the conversation, driving progress, and “floating all boats.”

Please enjoy, and I look forward to engaging with you!

Please connect with me over LinkedIn and come say hi if we happen to cross paths in the Prime Material Plane.

-Jim
